Best yet

Sometimes we get used to certain things and when it changes we rebel. However, in this case, the changes to the veritable Kayano are a good thing. I can really feel the differences and once I took the time to mentally adjust I realized that the model 18 is a big improvement on the model 17. They are lighter. There is more cushioning under the front of the foot, and the cushioning under the heel has been improved/adjusted and feels better to my foot at least. The tongue is a little shorter up top making it easier to tie your bow on the padded part. The 18′s have better/improved lateral support and stability. The mid shoe width is a little wider, so it doesn’t feel as confining there and adds to the lateral stability. I wore New Balance cross trainers for a long time for golf and the leather uppers had good lateral support, something I felt was a little weak in the Kayano 17′s. Everybody is different in what they like, so my comments are somewhat subjective, though I have tried to described what I think are clear improvements. To me these are very nice shoes and a worthy successor to the 17, but test drive them…go to your local big box store, and take a pair home to walk around the house in(keep the receipt). I think you’ll see what I’m saying. Then shop around the web to find the best deal, they are pricey at the moment cause they just came out…or wait until later in the year when the price drops. Cushioned stability shoes

I have been running for so many years in many other brands. This new Kayano 18 is my first pair of ASICS. For me, the most noticeable difference is shock absorbing. I think we can immediately tell the difference in shock absorbing quality of different car models. This is a direct analogy. In this Kayano 18, I have the same feeling as riding in a Mercedes or a Lexus. The Kayano absorbs all the shocks. Each running step is firm and responsive; but no shocks. I used to run in the Adidas Supernova Glide 1 & 2 before the Kayano 18. The Supernovas are very good shoes which helped recover my injured knees caused by other previous wrong shoes but I prefer the Kayano 18. The Kayano provide perfect shock absorbing and are lighter. All in all, this is the most comfortable pair of running shoes I have ever owned.

I would like to add that the Supernova Glide and the Kayano are technically very different shoes. The Supernova Glide is in the “cushion” category for runners who are underpronators but the Kayano is in the “stability” category for overpronators. I am a neutral runner and have no problems running in any of them. The Kayano simply absorb more shocks and are lighter.

Update: I have recently purchased a pair of ASICS Nimbus 13. I use the Nimbus for recovery run. The difference between them is very obvious. The Kayano 18 gives more support at the midsole. This is because of the Duomax material (the gray part of the midsole under the arch) which is more stiff than the white softer midsole material. I feel more comfortable in the Kayano 18 especially when walking. I like the midsole support. I also run faster in the Kayano. The Nimbus, which is mainly for underpronators, does not have the Duomax support since the more stiff midsole may promote even more underpronation. The midsole of the Nimbus is uniform. When walking in the Nimbus, the feeling is like walking on a mattress. I found it too soft for long walk. I prefer walking in the Kayano which is more firm. When running in the Nimbus, the shoes give soft, comfortable and relaxed feeling. For me, the Nimbus 13 are too soft for competition thus suitable for my recovery running. Heel strikers and underpronators would love them but I prefer the Kayano 18.

Awesome just Awesome!

I bought these shoes a week ago. This is a much improved version than the 17′s. The shoes space has increased a little and the comfort (cushioning) near the toes is much more improved and feels so good. I basically have a flat foot so the duomax provides the hump to make my foot feel like a normal arch. The Gel cushioning is similar to the 17 and feels good. These are the best shoes and i would recommend them to my friends. It feels like i am walking on some cloud!!!These are pricey now as they are just released and i will sure get one more after the price has gone down. Love these shoes!!! Awesome!!!

Good price, great sandals.

I’ve worn the sandals for several 8-10 hour days now and they are very comfortable. The soles are sturdy and provide good traction, and the footbed is firm yet conforming and comfortable. The straps feel strong as does the velcro with which they fasten. I ordered the next whole size up (I wear a half size) from what I wear in other shoes, and they fit perfectly. Good product. Would buy again.

Good basic, functional Tevas

I bought these because they were fairly inexpensive (about $45), to replace a more expensive pair of Tevas that I’ve worn out over the past eight years. My old ones have some more padding between the web straps and my foot, and are considerably more comfortable. I find myself still wearing my old ones, though the soles are separating from the uppers. But perhaps when I start wearing the new hurricane’s more often, my feet will get used to them. But if I was to do it again, I would spend $30 more and get more comfortable ones.

they’re sort of minimalist sandals and they’re not horrible

I just bought this sandal after wearing out a very similar set (Hurricane-something, purchased for $40-ish at Famous Footwear) after wearing it almost exclusively over the course of 18 months, so I’ll present my experience with the older set and describe the differences I see with these.

What I like about this sort of sandal is that it lacks the padding and arch support of the more expensive ones, making it very light and flexible. The solid heel provides much better resistance to ripping under lateral stress when compared to sandals with honeycombed heelstrike absorbers. The fully-synthetic construction allows it to dry quickly, but it still tends to develop odor and footcruft if worn without socks. With enough layers of wool hiking socks it can become arbitrarily warm and weather-resistant.

All the adjustments are velcro, but after 18 months I didn’t see any sign of that beginning to fail. The sole does have a tendency to delaminate – the newer set seems as though it might be more robust in that regard. The only reason I’m replacing my old set is that I’ve wore through the outsole and most of the strap where it wraps around the bottom of the insole.

I used this sandal for walking, hiking, biking, and sitting around in an office. I wouldn’t recommend running on pavement with them on account of the noise. And other issues. Why would you want to run on pavement anyway?

Great shoes for running cross country, trail running, or every day dirt road running. I actually don’t mind these shoes on pavement or blacktop trails. Very light and comfortable, great mud release system and look great.

Best tennis shoes I’ve ever worn.

Barricade II’s have been one of the best selling tennis shoes because they are the BEST. Their popularity is evidenced by the fact that every year, Adidas comes out with a new version of the Barricade shoe (I think they’re on VI now), but they keeping making and selling Barricade II’s. They don’t even cost much less despite how old of a model they are. I’ve owned at least 3 different pairs of them now, and the only reason I’ll ever buy anything else is if I just get a really good deal. This shoe has everything a serious tennis player could want: comfort, support, durability, and in my opinion they look good. I guess everyone’s got different feet, but if you’re just trying to find a good benchmark tennis shoe, this is it. I even wear mine to play basketball because they are so much more comfortable and lighter than basketball shoes typically are.

ADIDAS BARRICADE, TENNIS SHOE

This is a great tennis shoe, it will fit very well, sizes are right (do not run larger) besides the look is awesome, actually i do not like the new barricade due the design and it is synthetic leather, this one is made of leather and that makes it more comfortable, do not think twice, both (the new model and this one) offer the same characteristics , but this model in a better look and material quality.

Sweet!

These shoes are great. I wear them everyday.

They have a soft flip flop type sole with a harder rubber sole for traction, which is comfortable but slippery sometimes in wet conditions.

The canvas top holds my feet well. It has frayed quite fast though, a little moreso than I would have liked.

I bike to school in them, they look great with khakis or jeans, feel great with bare feet or socks, dry quickly and don’t get stinky. I am happy with the purchase.

Shoes are just as advertised, like a sandal but looks like a cool casual shoe. I normally wear size 8 but I went with size 9′s as I wanted plenty of room and the way the heel angles in holds your foot in place.

this product works really well for restoring suede boots–first make sure you dry brush the boots to get the initial dirt off, then use the nubuck color to match –let dry for at least 24 hours–looks like new!
